JD Newton spent twelve years solving complex problems as a petroleum field engineer before he realized the problems he most wanted to solve had nothing to do with oil. While pursuing his MBA at TCU, a single finance course reignited a lifelong connection between his mathematical instincts and the field of financial planning. A conversation with a friend already in the industry put him on the path to becoming a financial advisor, and he hasn't looked back since.
JD joined Edward Jones in 2018, building his practice around straightforward advice, direct communication, and a level of personal accessibility he believed every client deserved. In December 2025, he left to found Newton Private Wealth, where the work is shaped entirely by what clients need rather than what a firm needs to sell.
His approach is built around a belief that financial decisions work best when they're treated as parts of a larger, connected whole. He integrates investment management, tax strategy, and long-term planning so that every decision fits into the full picture. When clients already work with a CPA or estate attorney, JD brings those relationships into the process rather than working around them.
The moment that stays with him is a client who discovered he could retire at 57, eight years earlier than he had planned, simply because someone had finally sat down with him to put all the pieces together. That's the work JD shows up to do.
JD grew up on a farm and ranch near Forsan, Texas, a small west Texas town with a story of its own. He now lives in Grapevine with his wife, Cassidy, whom he met in a physics class at Angelo State University, their daughter Felicity, their son Gabriel, and a Great Dane named Ottie. When he's not with his family, he's usually teaching himself something new. Over the years, that has included flying, blacksmithing, woodworking, scuba diving, and amateur rocketry, with piano and violin still on the list.
JD is an active member of both the Grapevine and Parker County Chambers of Commerce, has served on the Parker County Chamber board and as Ambassador Chair, and is a longtime Rotary member who served as chapter president during the 2019-2020 year. He and his wife are deeply involved in their church, and JD has made multiple mission trips to Guatemala to help build homes for families in need.
